Save the Date: May 5th, 2025 - Missing and Murdered Indigenous People Memorial Walk and Art Installation at Empire State Plaza
Many Indigenous communities still experience higher-than-average rates of violent crime and human trafficking, and many of these cases are never reported or solved.
To recognize and raise awareness of the high rates of missing or murdered Indigenous people (MMIP) across New York State, the Office of Children and Family Services is hosting a memorial walk in Albany on Monday, May 5, 2025, which begins this year's Missing and Murdered Indigenous People Awareness Week. The walk will start at the Missing Persons Remembrance Eternal Flame monument at the corner of Madison Avenue and Swan Street and finish at an art installation on the Empire State Plaza Concourse in downtown Albany, adjacent to the Capitol. Remarks will follow.Ìý
This event comes after and builds upon last year's recognition of MMIP Awareness Week by the Office of Children and Family Services.
This is a developing story and will be updated with further information.
