Students wishing to earn the NYSSB must complete all requirements for graduating with a NYS Regents diploma.Ìý In addition, students must earn three (3) points from the English criteria and three (3) points from the World Language criteria.Ìý One way in which students may earn points toward these criteria is to earn a passing score on an assessment that has been approved by Â鶹¹ÙÍø for use with the NYSSB.ÌýÌý

To facilitate the identification and selection of available assessments by language, OBEWL has developed an online tool called the, which replaces the assessment section of all prior versions of the NYSSB Handbook.Ìý This online tool is the most up-to-date list of approved assessments and also has search and filter functions.ÌýOnce a school has identified the language(s) in which they wish students to test, they should consult the NYSSB Assessment Finder to determine the availability of the assessments.Ìý It is important to note that schools should not be using old versions of the NYSSB Handbook to determine assessment availability, as the list of approved assessments has been updated since then.ÌýÌýIndividual vendors may discontinue one or more of their exams at any time, so schools should verify with their chosen vendor(s) the terms for use of the assessment (e.g., cost, administration)Ìýand availability of the chosen assessment in the current school year.

How to use the .

1. Open the .
2. The list of approved assessment is sorted by language alphabetically. Use the scroll or page up/down keys to find the language you wish. If a language does not appear in this list, that means there is not currently an approved assessment in that language. In that case, the school may perform an informal oral interview of the student and use the Interpersonal rubric to determine their proficiency. A score of at least Intermediate Mid would earn the student a point for criterion 2D. The oral interview is not permitted when there is an approved Checkpoint C assessment that measures Intermediate Mid proficiency
3. To filter the list to just one language, find the black bar labeled "Languages" in column A. Click on the inverted triangle (the filter button) to see the list of languages that have approved assessments. There are two options for narrowing down the list of assessments by language.
   1. Use the Search Bar to enter the name of a language. Then, click the green "OK" button. The available assessment(s) for that language, the exam vendor(s), and the minimum required score(s) will be displayed in columns D through F. (If there is more than one approved assessment, they are listed one after the other.)
   2. Alternatively, click on the inverted triangle.Ìý Then, click on the "Clear" link to uncheck all languages. Then, click on the language you wish so that a checkmark appears before the name of the language. Click the green "OK" button to see the result.Ìý To search for another language, repeat step 2 above.
